Ramblings on Recovery

All I had to do was not fall through the holes in the net. I had hit the very bottom or my being just prior to stumbling in through these doors, partly bewildered at where I had ended up in life and partly foggy from the 3 day binge. What had started out as a futile yet genuinely honest attempt to not drink at an engagment party ended 3 days later with me coming to on the floor of the “furnished” garage I had to beg (what turned out to be an angel of a landlord) to let me rent only having 400 to my name with hardly a job at the time. The year prior I had been staring off the Bellagio balcony just outside the poker room looking at the Atlantic City skyline. What had happen to me!

In a confused and helpless state I turned myself over to you. And in quick measure what happened is a net rose up from around and startled me. Now of course that net was the fellowship. And so through these steps I become apart of the very net that welled up and saved my sick sad and sorry self. The gratitude there is beyond words. And so the only true response is to pass it on, but no one is perfect. And this has been my experience in recovery. To be transformed through these steps into that which I had sought after in bottle is to experience a way out few get to experience. All I had to do at first was to not fall through the holes in the net until these steps began to restore me to sanity, and then I was on my way, unbeknownst to myself on becoming a part of that very net. I live a blessed life today because of those who were apart of that net when I arrived here. Thank you AA
